National Forum on Character Education
National Forum on Character Education
Character Education has become an integral part of the foundation of all of our schools across Birmingham Public Schools. Therefore, as we constantly work on improving the overall culture at Berkshire Middle School, I am honored to be able to currently join educators from all over the world at the National Forum on Character Education in Atlanta, Georgia. At this conference, Berkshire, Groves High School and 65 other schools (11 of them middle schools) from across the United States are being recognized and awarded as National Schools of Character. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with all of our stakeholders on this journey of further developing and supporting the positive character traits of our students, staff, families and greater community. |

Parents!
Do you go to school events and take pictures? Well if you do we would love for you to share them with us for the yearbook! All you have to do is go to Pictavo.com and then follow the onscreen prompts. Are you using your phone to take pictures? There's an APP for that! Check it out on pictavo.com This has truly been one of the most inspirational days that I can ever remember! We are all just ecstatic about the great news of Trevor finally getting his new heart. In addition, we have been getting recent updates from Mr. Sullivan and Cheryl Rivera that so far the surgery is going very well and the new heart is in Trevor's body. They are hoping that the surgery will be successfully completed by about 11 pm this evening.
Friday Evening The entire operation was textbook perfect. There were no issues, the new heart fit perfectly, and was connected fairly quickly. They finally brought him back to his room at 1 am. Yesterday they took him off of the main sedation med, and he talked to his parents. The video is on Team Trevor on Facebook, and is amazing. Now he's recovering, semi-conscious, but can't have visitors for awhile. He's doing great and looks wonderful! Thank you so much for everything that you all have done to support Trevor and his family. As they have expressed to me on numerous occasions, the Sullivan family is extremely grateful and humbled by this outpouring of love and support. Please keep the thoughts and prayers going and I'll update everyone on any additional news on Trevor that I hear. For the full update, click here. Learn more about Trevor and his circumstance, by visiting his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/TeamTrevor/. The family also has a Go Fund Me page set up to help with medical costs. That can be found at www.gofundme.com/teamtrevorsullivan Stay informed by reading the Berkshire Weekly Update email. In addition, make sure that you receive Mr. Clinkscale’s Remind text messages by texting the message @berks to 81010!

Congratulations to Berkshire Art Teacher!
Mike Orlando, Middle School Art Educator of the Year! Mr. Orlando has been such an inspiration for so many of our Berkshire students that sincerely desire the opportunity to learn about the multitude of ways to express themselves through art. Mr. Orlando has led the yearly Art Jam celebration that showcases students’ artistic talents in multiple mediums and formats. This evening event features live theater, paintings, drawings, musicians, singers, dancers and so much more. It is awe inspiring to see how Mr. Orlando works with such a wide variety of students to find their artistic niches and to show off their talents in front of their peers and community. Furthermore, Mr. Orlando has taken our Art Club that meets weekly after school and transformed it into our own chapter of the National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS). This group allows many like minded and artistically talented students to come together to work on things that they are passionate about under Mr. Orlando's leadership. Thank you Mr. Orlando for you creativity and dedication to the Berkshire Family! You have made us Berkshire Proud! |

Birthday Treats in the Cafeteria
We are asking that students and/or parents not bring in birthday treats to pass out during lunch time. It is starting to become a safety issue for everyone. Students are getting bombarded by others asking for a treat. We want to make sure all students in the cafeteria are safe. Thanks for your support! Stay in Touch |
